Hawaii In Seattle – Summer/Fall Events 2012

by Fergy Ferguson

Let’s talk about Hawaii in Seattle – Summer and Fall events for 2012.  This year I will try to focus a little more on some of the local community events that tend to provide a great Hawaii experience here on the mainland.

Do you miss watching Outrigger Canoe teams practicing while you sit on the beach in Hawaii.  Guess what….you can go to The PNWORCA Outrigger Sprint Championships on Saturday, June 23rd at Silver Lake Park, in Everett, Wa.  This event is a “sit on the grass” and cheer on your favorite team type Hawaii event.  There will be 18 canoe clubs competing with special divisions for keiki’s, wahine’s, and an over 70 division.  There will also be Ono Hawaiian Style Plate Lunches served up by Cafe’ Ohana Grillin’ and Caterin’, so I can’t see why you don’t take the kids and have a day watching the canoe races…..more info here.

Some Cultural Events Held In Hawaii.

Our first upcoming event is on Saturday, July 14, 2012.  The Aloha ‘O Na Kupuna Music and Dance Festival, at Kennedy High School in Burien, will feature lots of Hawaiian vendors, food, music and dance.  These types of smaller community are my favorites.  Learn more about this Music & Dance Festival here.

Now I know you will have to wait a little for this, but The 5th Annual Live Aloha Festival will be held again at The Seattle Center.  The fifth annual Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 11am-7pm.  This year’s festival will feature two stages of entertainment, withe the headline act being Kapena.

Although I have not received any word on more Hawaii in Seattle summer and fall events for 2012…..I am sure there are a few more out there that I will keep you posted on.

A hui ho………
