Hawaii Events In Seattle – May 2012 Update

by Fergy Ferguson

It is time to update our list of upcoming Hawaii events in Seattle.  The coming 2 to 3 months will not only see a resurgence of the sun in Seattle, but will bring some of the Hawaiian stars into our neck of the woods.

First up is the group Kohala, which had such a successful run back in February.  These 3 guys, Charlie Recaido, Charles Brothman, and Rupert Tripp, hail from Waimea and Hilo on the island of Hawaii.  They have all played in celebrated bands of the islands, and 2 of them were artists on the first grammy awarded album back in 2005.

Kohala has 3 consecutive concerts scheduled so far starting on May 31st.  Here’s the schedule:
*May 31st at the Asian Islander Celebration Lower Community College, Longview,Washington.
*June 1st at the Matthews Estate Winery, Woodinville,Washington (Fundraiser For The Queen its a Day Abused & Battered Program)
*June 2nd at the Phinney Ridge Community Center, Seattle, Washington (Proceeds to Benefit! New Hope Seattle Youth Mission Trip to Kenya Africa)

You can get tickets here…. http://www.alohaislandtreasures.net/cms/node/46

Second up is two favorite Hawaiian entertainers, Ledward Kaapana and Mike Kaawa.  They will be playing June 6th and 7th at The Triple Door in downtown Seattle.  Their 7:30 p.m. shows will also include guest appearances by Doug Cox and Fran Guidry, also very popular Hawaiian entertainers.  I have always loved the intimate feel of this venue, and it’s fun to go to these shows and see all the Aloha wear in such prevalence.

Go here for tickets to one, or both, of these two shows Led Kaapana & Kaawa Tickets

Finally….There is going to be lots of Hawaiian entertainment at this years Folklife Festival in Seattle.  Here a link to the anticpated  Hawaiian / Polynesian /`Ukulele acts at NW Folklife 2012
